The Juxtaposition of the Night

By Kimelia Carter

*Inspired by To Night by P.B. Shelley*

"Thou wovest dreams of joy and fear

leaving me drenched in sensations

the butterflies who fluttered so sweetly

shredded my stomach lining

with the thin blades on their wing tips

The smile that once brighten

the darkest of caverns

leaves me gasping and scratching

through my uncertainty

Your touch once stopped me in my tracks

frozen by its gentleness now

Lingering like an unloved guest

as I choke on its now watered-down sweetness

Your face still scars my memory

and torments my dreams

muscles sore from the constant

ups and downs my face dances with

the tempting melody of false apologies

or the lack of

But yet,

Swift be thine approaching flight

into my life"
